The Loosers' Club is kind of my favorite movie right now. After six months in Istanbul watching Turkish movies and Turkish soap - which kind of looks like movies - I came to the conclusion that the Losers' club was my favorite Turkish movie. Maybe because I have a thing for Radio movies and the fact that I must have watched The Boat That Rocked or Good Morning Vietnam a thousand time ( "Goooood morning Vietnaaaaam" yes Robin Williams irresistible voice still echoes in my head!).
Anyway, you've probably guessed it by now, The losers' Club is a Radio Movie, and a very particular one. The radio show is hosted by two friends Kaan and Mete, who basically just sit every night in a cloud of smoke, cigarette and whisky in front them, sharing their deepest and inner thoughts about life, women, sex and other controversial subject for a Turkish radio station. I don't exactly know what is appealing about them, it's something that I can't try to explain, but somehow they pull you in, and like their audience in the movie they make you want to get in your pijamas, sit on your sofa, pour yourself a big glass of Red Wine and listen to everything they have to say and even if it's completely and total non sens, somehow it start to make sens. I'm not making much sense either right now, am I?
I have to say, when watching the movie, I felt a tremendous distance between me and the people surrounding me in the Cinema Hall, I was so drown in Kaan and Mete words and the whole -oh so special- atmosphere of the movie that I felt part of their audience.
What I also liked in this movie is Istanbul, of course. I can't find word to express my love for this city. 6 months were way too short to experience it all, and now that I'm gone watching the movie again brings back a lot of memories, the ferries, the bridge and its awful awful traffic, the murmur of the city, the sound of the seaguls and the boat in the distance, the dreadful Dolmus drivers, the underground bars .. Aah I already feel nostalgic for all of it, but I should stop my longing here since I'm writing about a movie and not about my AMAZING time in Istanbul (maybe I should start a blog just for that).
Oh I have one last thing to say : If you haven't seen this movie, go watch it! It's totally worth it, I'm not sure English subtitle can be found easily though.. I've watched it in my University's Cine Club and the guys there spent days to find them just so I could watch it!

Enjoy!
